During World War II, Czeslaw Milosz (A Treatise on Poetry) survived as an assistant in the University of Warsaw's Library, helping in the shifting of books from one library to another under German supervision, while publishing an underground conspiratorial edition of his own poetry and translating works of authors like T.S. Eliot.
